Multipliers stack multiplicatively. If both types are weak to one attack type, you take 4× damage. If one type resists what the other is weak to, they cancel to 1×. This creates unique defensive profiles for every dual-type combination.

Steel/Ghost and Steel/Dark are widely considered top defensive typings with very few weaknesses. Steel alone resists 10 types. Ghost/Dark creates a combo with zero common weaknesses. Water/Ground is great for neutralizing Electric immunity.
