Mean Arterial Pressure Calculator

Calculate MAP from systolic and diastolic blood pressure using both the standard clinical formula and the exact formula. Includes pulse pressure, BP classification, and clinical interpretation.

Both MAP formulas · AHA BP classification · Organ perfusion ranges · Clinical context

Blood Pressure Reading

Enter systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number)

mmHg

The higher number — pressure when heart beats

mmHg

The lower number — pressure when heart rests

Formula Method

MAP = DBP + ⅓(SBP − DBP) — assumes diastole is ⅔ of the cardiac cycle. Standard clinical formula.

Clinical Context (optional)
yrs

MAP Formula Reference
Standard (Clinical)
MAP = DBP + ⅓(SBP − DBP)
Assumes 1/3 systole, 2/3 diastole. Used at bedside.
Simplified Equivalent
(SBP + 2×DBP) ÷ 3
Mathematically identical to standard formula.
Exact (with HR)
MAP = DBP×(Td/T) + SBP×(Ts/T)
Ts = systole duration, Td = diastole. More precise but HR required.
